Top Instagram Updates & Features in September

Yep, you guessed it– we have a handful of new, great Instagram updates to discuss.

Let’s dive in!

New authenticity measures on Instagram.

Now Instagram will begin asking users to confirm who’s behind an account when they see a pattern of potential inauthentic behavior. This includes accounts potentially engaged in coordinated inauthentic behavior, or when the majority of someone's followers are in a different country to their location, or if Insta finds signs of automation, such as bot or fake accounts.

After the account holder verifies their information, their account will function as usual. But if an account chooses not to confirm their information, content may receive reduced distribution, or the account may be disabled.

Universal QR code for individual profiles.

This feature allows users to quickly share their profiles through any camera app capable of scanning QR codes (Interesting fact - Instagram has launched this feature in Japan in 2019). Until now, users who wanted to share their profiles with others had to share their QR codes to be scanned through Instagram’s camera. So, QR code effectively replaces the old Instagram "Nametag" feature.

To access your personal QR code, justt go into Instagram’s settings and select "QR Code".

“Suggested Posts” feature.

Now Instagram loads "Suggested Posts" at the end of your feed, once you’re all caught up with updates from friends and other accounts you follow.

Before, when you get to the end of your feed, Instagram displays a "You’re all caught up!" and lets you view older posts. Instead, after said message, you’ll now see suggested posts from other accounts by default – including ads. It seems this feature will keep you scrolling forever:)

In-testing this month: Merging Instagram and Facebook Messenger chats.

Facebook is now merging Instagram and Messenger chats into one service. Instagram users are now being notified to join their accounts with Facebook Messenger, which brings chats and features from Messenger to Instagram.

This feature includes a new colorful chats look, more emoji reactions, swipe-to-reply, and the best - you can chat with friends who use Facebook. By the way, the next step is to combine the two services with WhatsApp.

All in all, we’re excited about this month updates and can’t wait to see what next month brings. Stay tuned!
